PSA: Children Doxxing

Found on YouTube Shorts: a 7 year old girl doxxing herself with her name, age, favorite color, etc on her father’s YouTube account putting herself and her entire family at risk of predation.

What is “dox?”
Dox noun Slang
1. A person’s identifying information, as address, phone number, name, or alias, when maliciously posted online to target that person for pranks, fraud, or other harassment.
verb (used with or without object), doxed, doxx·ing. Slang
2. To publish the private personal information of (another person) or reveal the identity of (an online poster) without the consent of that individual:
The professor was doxxed by a bitter student who failed her class.
Several players doxxed the programmer because the final version of the game disappointed them.

Did you know that children 13 and younger are posting on YouTube?
Yes, the #1 most desirable job for a kid is to become a YouTuber. This makes YouTube rife with opportunities for kids to make silly mistakes. Not only this, but there is an even scarier new trend using the song: “Some Things ABT Me” by CHIS with these lyrics:

My name, my age, my favorite color
My height, my sign, do I have a lover
What’s my nationality?
Here some things that inspire me
My favorite food, my current mood
And my shoe size
This is my favorite tv show
And my favorite animal
There’s much more to know
That will cover as we grow
I’ve got this many tattoos
And yes all these things are true
So tell me little something ’bout you
I really want to get to know
All about you, baby
Let’s take some time to get to know
Each other ’cause I want you in my life
And there is only so much time
So show me
What’s inside
Yeah show me what’s inside
My favorite song and my favorite movie
My hair is this long, what I wanna grow up to be
Here’s a nickname I go by
And some things I never tried
Do I have a pet?
Have I named it yet
What shade are my eyes?
Here’s my favorite cereal
And a place I’d like to go
There’s much more to know
That we’ll cover as we grow
Here some habits that I do
And yes all these things are true
So tell me little something ’bout you
I really want to get to know
All about you, baby

Let’s take some time to get to know
Each other cause I want you in my life
And there is only so much time
So show me
What’s inside
Yeah show me what’s inside

Seems harmless enough, but children, and adults alike are answering these lyrics in Video Form (often in video of themself) with the text as overlay as seen in the image.

Why does this make it a PSA?
With the holiday this month children will be home with technology at their fingertips and bored. Therefore these posts are going to skyrocket.

Is it really that dangerous to post this much information on the internet?
Absolutely. The information redacted from the screenshot and the linking information available within YouTube is enough to begin unraveling the details of this family. Information like home address, phone number, social media accounts, and email addresses are all easily discoverable with only two key elements required: time and persistence.

What a bad actor does once they have enough information can lead to deadly consequences.

How can you protect yourself?
Keep your private life private. Ensure your social media is set to private and, even in that, be careful what you and your children share with others.

How can you help others?
If you see videos, images or posts like this on the internet, please report them. These people are ignorantly in danger. Google, Facebook, Twitter, Discord, etc have no tolerance Terms of Service (TOS) about children at risk, so protections are in place, but only if we the public report these issues. In fact, all these platforms have a minimum age requirement of 13 years old. Please help these platforms police these policies by being a civilian policeman.

Share this article. These vulnerable people are in danger simply due to their own ignorance and immaturity. You can help them by sharing this article. Help them help themselves by sharing it out to your facebook, family and friends.
